Is that Mohammed on Kelly’s rifle and shotgun stocks?

March 22, 2009

NOTICE THIS POST IS POLITICAL IN NATURE AND MAY OFFEND SO STOP READING NOW IF YOU ARE 1) only interested in shooting stuff or 2) easily offended. If you keep reading and don’t like it, too damn bad for you.

You may have noticed that I have placed symbols of the holy prophet Mohammed on some of my long guns. The symbols are from the cartoons published in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten (the Jutland Post) in September of 2005. The newspaper was concerned that both Europeans and the European press were self-censoring their commentary about Islam, the implication being silence due to the fear of terrorism. This is, of course, a real fear after the murder of Theo Van Gogh for his documentary concerning the treatment of women under Sharia. The paper “commissioned” editorial cartoons about Mohammed. The publication of these 12 cartoons lead to riots throughout the Muslim world, the death of over 100 (!) people, boycotts on Danish products, and death threats and plots against the cartoonists and newspaper staff.

I went to Denmark in the summer of 2006 to shoot the Nordic Rifle Championship. I decided to show solidarity with my Danish comrades by putting some of the cartoons on my AR15 rifle stock. I have kept them on my long guns since.

My country and Western civilization (whether it likes it or not) is in direct conflict with the radicalized elements of fringe groups of Islamofascists (see Raymond Ibrahim’s excellent The Al Queda Reader for a glipse into an ideology that would make a hardened Nazi blush) and I refuse to kowtow my freedom of speech or thought to their demands. Freedom of speech and thought are the central tenets of Western Civilization. Without it, we would be without democracy, modern health care and science, political debate, market economy, civilian control of the military, and most if not all the material bounty which we experience today.

Be aware there is a movement afoot (in the UN as well as Europe) to criminalize such criticism, commentary or critique of Islam as blasphemy, effectively squelching dissent and enforcing a true dhimmitude. I’m not out to offend Muslims or blaspheme Islam but freedom of speech and thought comes 1st and foremost! So when you see a cartoon on my gun, recognize that it’s the 1st and 2nd Amendment all wrapped up in one package!

Right on, Kelly! We’ve turned into a nation where “political correctness” and minding our “Ps & Qs” has slowly eaten away at our core values. We’re not doing what’s “right” for the U. S. in fear of “offending” the entire world.

We’ve instituted policies in our schools and government offices that sicken me. (When did Christmas become an “unmentionable” holiday?)

We have agenda-driven, biased news stations and reporters that give us skewed bits & pieces of select happenings. Thank goodness for FOX.

Our government is plagued with corruption and hell-bent on dismantling our Constitution, piece by piece.

We’ve instituted so many protections for the law breakers (criminals, illegals, terrorists), we’ve created fear and doubt in our own LE agents … to the point that they’re having to think twice about enforcing the laws of our Great County. (I’d love to hear your take on this one, BTW).

And that’s just a few of the problems, as you know.

I have always been a big fan of you & Delia and highly respect your opinions. I’m with you 100% on standing up for our First & Second Amendment rights! Thanks for the informative blog.
