Why no FAL at the European Rifle Championships

July 25, 2009

Several people have queried why I did not choose to shoot the FAL at the ERC.  Well I almost did.  I successfully shot a .260 Rem. FAL with major power factor at the 2003 USPSA 3 Gun Championships (the year that Bennie Cooley and I dominated the rifle portion of the match).

My decision had more to do with logistics than anything else.   .308 or .260 ammo is a bear to travel with, weighing much more than .223.   Since the Americans travelled and acted as a team, it was unwise to have one shooter with a completely different set up.  Likewise I was unsre of the availability of .308 (possible) and .260 (no freaking way!) ammo in Norway.

But the FAL will make an appearance at DPMS!
